1st International Workshop on
Technologies for Ambient Information Society
to be held in conjunction with BIONETICS 2008.

In the future ambient information society, not only can a user obtain
information in a flexible manner, as in the ubiquitous information
society, but also information systems in the ambient environment can
autonomously provide desired information to a user according to
his/her given circumstances (i.e., time, place, and personal
preferences). Information systems in such a society, for example,
could provide people with an advice or guidance to avoid possible
danger or hazards. To realize such a society, it is not enough to
simply extend conventional IT. Instead, we need to develop
sophisticated breakthrough technologies to tackle the expected
technological challenges, such as inference of user's desire,
recognition of environmental condition, adaptation of ambient systems,
provision of information to users. The new technologies also need to
be scalable, adaptive, reliable, and robust. Biologically-inspired
approaches are promising in building such technologies by an
interdisciplinary way of thinking and working.
This workshop aims to bring together researchers and scientists from
several research areas including information networking, information
systems engineering, computer science, multimedia engineering,
physical science, and bioinformatic engineering, to foster research
and development of technologies for ambient information society
infrastructure.
Original submissions are solicited on, but not limited to, the
following topics:
Ambient network
• wireless sensor network, mobile ad-hoc network, overlay network for ambient information society
• service discovery and organization for ambient information society
• information technology for reliable and dependable ambient information society
Ambient interface
• recognition of environmental condition and user demand for ambient information society
• ambient interaction with users
Ambient information platform
• sensing, security, application technology for ambient information society
Biological dynamics
• biological adaptation, robustness, resilience applicable to ambient network, interface, and information platform
Authors are invited to submit full papers of 4 to 6 pages in ACM
conference proceedings format. The proceedings will be an ICST
publication and the papers will be listed on the ACM DL and indexed by
EI. Please follow the instructions on the website
(http://www.bionetics.org) for formatting your paper. Papers need to
be submitted through email to the workshop chair, Naoki Wakamiya ( ) with the email
subject line, "TAIS08 Paper Submission". A confirmation email will be
sent back as soon as confirmed.
